Uzbekistan's birth rate experienced a nearly 8% decline in the first half of the year, according to new figures.

The National Statistics Agency, an entity under the President's office, issued its most recent demographic report, indicating a 7.92% decrease in birth rates nationwide for the initial six months of 2026.

Official data from the agency shows that 373,389 live births were recorded across Uzbekistan from January to June. This represents a substantial reduction of 32,111 births when compared to the 405,500 live births registered during the identical six-month span in 2025, suggesting a considerable slowdown in the nation's swift population growth.

An analysis of the 2026 data by province reveals that Samarkand province remains the primary contributor to the country's population expansion, leading with 46,436 registered births. Fergana province was a close second with 41,773 births, and Kashkadarya province ranked third with 41,261. Other significant demographic activity was noted in major southern and eastern regions, including Surkhandarya (35,461 births), Andijan (32,949), and Namangan (31,441).

Tashkent Province recorded 29,024 live births, slightly surpassing the urban capital, Tashkent city, which had 27,446.

Among the remaining administrative areas, Bukhara Province registered 17,535 live births, followed by Khorezm (17,112), Jizzakh (16,949), and Karakalpakstan (15,894). The lowest birth figures for this six-month period were observed in Navoiy province with 10,724 births and Syrdarya province with 9,384.
