New left turn lanes have been established at the intersection of Aktepa Square in Tashkent. These changes are intended to shorten routes, reduce congestion at the intersection, and prevent traffic jams.
Previously, drivers traveling from Lutfiy Street toward Nurafshon and Seulskaya Streets were required to enter Mukimi Street and make a U-turn. Now, following the appropriate traffic light, they can immediately turn left and continue in the desired direction without having to make a U-turn.
Similar changes have been made for vehicles traveling from Samarkand Darvoza Street. Previously, to travel toward Lutfiy and Mukimi Streets, drivers had to enter Nurafshon Street and make a U-turn. Now, this route can also be taken via a direct left turn at the traffic light.
As a result of these improvements, the route length has been reduced by almost 600 meters. Furthermore, congestion that previously occurred when making U-turns on Nurafshon and Mukimi Streets is expected to decrease.
Travel time is estimated to have been reduced to 4 minutes during normal traffic hours and 10 minutes during rush hour.
To improve pedestrian safety, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights have also been installed at the intersection.
