The son-in-law of the American leader, Jared Kushner, said that US President Donald Trump has ordered the preparation of a set of measures to achieve peace. He announced this after negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
"President Trump's task, and what Steve and I are working on, is to prepare a peace package," he said.
Kushner said Trump wants to ensure that there is "no hostility between Russia and Ukraine, that they have immense potential, and that they find mutual benefit instead of fighting each other."
He said that during the meeting, they discussed what the components of a long-term peace should be and how this would benefit Ukraine, Russia, and the entire world.
Kushner added that returning to trilateral negotiations would be a productive step.
"Steve and I believe that returning to the trilateral format, as it was about half a year ago, would be very beneficial. We have negotiated with both sides and hope there will be progress soon," he said.
According to an Axios source who participated in the Kyiv negotiations, Kushner and Witkoff intend to work with the parties on an "updated" peace proposal.
"If all interested parties take the appropriate step, the situation could change for the better," the source said.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6. Prior to this, they held a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meeting lasted nearly three hours.
