It is proposed to review the procedure for calculating alimony in Uzbekistan. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister — Chairperson of the Family and Women's Committee, Dilnoza Kattaxonova, at the 19th plenary session of the Senate.
According to her, cases have recently been observed where some individuals, in order to evade paying alimony or to reduce its amount, hide their actual income and register themselves at jobs with minimum wages. For this reason, the amount of alimony may not be sufficient to cover the child's real needs.
In this regard, it is proposed to establish a minimum consumption basket for each child's age category. According to the new approach, the determination of the alimony amount could be based not only on the official salary and income of the father or mother, but on the minimum expenses required to provide for the child's living, food, and other necessary needs.
Kattaxonova emphasized that this change is aimed at strengthening and guaranteeing the material support of the child.
Additionally, another proposal regarding the alimony collection process was made. According to it, the possibility of gradually transferring certain processes related to alimony collection, which are currently carried out by the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement, to the private sector may be considered, based on the study of foreign experience.
The Committee plans to introduce these proposals into legislation. For now, these norms have not been adopted — they have been presented as proposals.
