In Uzbekistan, it is proposed to revise the procedure for calculating child support in order to decouple it from salary and take into account the child's age and needs

In Uzbekistan, there are plans to change the principle of determining child support. Instead of focusing on the parent's official income, it is proposed to take into account the child's age and the expenses necessary for their maintenance.

This was announced during a Senate discussion by Dilnoza Kattakhonova, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Family and Women's Committee.

According to her, today some parents deliberately hide their real income or officially take low-paying jobs to reduce the amount of child support. Because of this, a child may receive an amount that is insufficient even for daily needs.

To solve this problem, it is proposed to establish a minimum consumer basket for children, taking into account their age category. The minimum amount of child support is planned to be calculated based on the cost of this basket.

Currently, the amount of child support depends on the parent's income. One-quarter of earnings is collected for one child, one-third for two children, and half of the income for three or more children.

At the same time, the payment for each child cannot be lower than 26.5% of the minimum wage — which is currently 360.4 thousand soums.

Thus, under the proposed approach, the amount of child support will be determined not only by the parent's official salary, but primarily by the necessary expenses for the child's maintenance.

It is also proposed to change the mechanism of child support collection itself. According to Kattakhonova, there are plans to gradually transfer part of the procedures to the private sector, taking into account international experience. Currently, the collection of child support is mainly handled by the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement.

Earlier, in the Karmana district of the Navoiy region, officers of the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement found a man hiding from child support payments directly inside a tandoor oven.
