In Tashkent, the network of safe drop-off zones for school children is being expanded

Tashkent continues to expand its network of safe drop-off zones for schoolchildren

Work is being carried out in stages in Tashkent to create special zones for the safe drop-off and pick-up of schoolchildren. Currently, this practice already covers 9 schools in the capital.

Previously, such zones were organized near 2 educational institutions — schools No. 5 and No. 42. Now, new sites have appeared near schools No. 110, No. 89, No. 300, No. 154, No. 280, No. 195, and No. 64. In these areas, spaces are provided for short-term vehicle stops, necessary road signs are installed, and corresponding road markings are applied.

The main objective of the project is to organize traffic during peak hours before the start and after the end of classes, as well as to reduce chaotic vehicle stops directly next to schools.

This approach is widely used in international practice under the names "Kiss & Ride" or "Kiss & Drop" in countries such as the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as in CIS countries. Specialists continue to analyze the operation of the organized zones and are preparing to refine the approach, taking into account the traffic situation on specific streets. The experience of the first sites will be used for the further development of such zones near other schools in Tashkent.
