Air quality in Tashkent expected to improve on the night of November 5 due to precipitation

The quality of atmospheric air in the city of Tashkent is expected to improve on the night of November 5. This was reported by the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.

According to forecasts, air quality in the capital during the evening, night, and morning hours may be at the "moderate" level according to the International Air Quality Index (AQI), and at times at the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" level.

According to the National Air Quality Index, indicators are expected to be mostly at the "green" level, and for a short period at the "yellow" level. According to global weather forecast models, precipitation in the amount of 2–6 millimeters may be observed in Tashkent on the night of November 5.

The expected precipitation is forecasted to reduce the amount of fine PM2.5 and PM10 particles in the atmosphere and improve air quality. On the morning of November 5, air quality may be at the "moderate" level according to the international AQI, and mostly at the "green" level according to the national index.

**Causes of air pollution**

One of the factors causing air pollution is processes related to the circulation of atmospheric air. The city of Tashkent is located in a foothill area, adjacent to a valley. Winds blowing from the northeast and southwest directions are of great importance in this area. The direction and speed of the wind directly affect the exchange of atmospheric air and the dispersion of pollutants.

Experts emphasize that not only human activity, but also natural dust, lack of precipitation, and unfavorable meteorological conditions are contributing to the increase in air pollution in Tashkent. The lack of precipitation weakens the washing away of dust particles in the air. In the capital, precipitation has decreased by almost 6 times compared to the monthly norm.

It is worth recalling that air quality in the capital was forecasted to deteriorate on the night of October 31 to November 1. It was reported that this could be caused by a drop in air temperature, weak wind, and temperature inversion.

It was stated at the time that the amount of pollutants in the atmosphere was expected to decrease during the daytime hours due to rising temperatures and improved air exchange.
