In Samarqand, a mahalla chairman who sexually harassed a daughter-in-law of a family in conflict was jailed for 5 days

In the Qoʻshrabot district, a mahalla chairman was subjected to administrative punishment for acts of harassment.

According to court documents, 42-year-old U.Ch., the chairman of the Katta Oqmachit mahalla in the Qoʻshrabot district, sexually harassed a woman living in the area. He wrote to the woman via Telegram, proposing sexual relations. He also sent indecent videos.

U.Ch. did not plead guilty in court. He claimed that his spouse had done these things to identify who owned an unfamiliar number on his phone.

The victim, however, asked for legal action to be taken against the mahalla chairman.

"Due to a mutual disagreement with my spouse, I went to my parents' house. My mother-in-law, the mahalla chairman U.Ch., and the mahalla women's activist came and wanted to reconcile us. They took me back to my home. At that time, the mahalla chairman took my phone number. Since then, without leaving me in peace, he proposed that we have a romantic relationship. Several times he sent pornographic videos via Telegram. Because of this, my family could fall apart," the woman said in her court testimony.

By court decision, U.Ch. was found guilty of committing the offenses provided for in Article 41-1, Part 1 (sexual harassment) and Article 189 (production, import, distribution, advertising, demonstration of pornographic products) of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. He was sentenced to 5 days of administrative arrest.
