A resident of the Andijan region was detained while attempting to sell nearly 300 million soums in counterfeit money. For the fake banknotes in denominations of 100,000 and 200,000 soums, he wanted to receive half that amount.
The operation was carried out by officers of the State Security Service.
According to the agency, the 39-year-old resident of the Asaka district, previously convicted of fraud, was engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit money at his home.
The man was caught red-handed while attempting to sell 297 million counterfeit soums to an undercover buyer for 148 million.
Following the arrest, SSS officers searched his home. There, they discovered a computer and a printer, which were presumably used for manufacturing the counterfeits. They also found sheets of special paper with printed blanks of 50,000 and 100,000 soum banknotes, as well as equipment for cutting them.
A criminal case has been initiated against the man and other potential accomplices under Part 3 of Article 176 ("Manufacturing, selling counterfeit money, excise stamps or securities"). The investigation is establishing his possible connections and other participants in the scheme.
A similar incident occurred in Namangan, where two residents of the region were detained while attempting to sell 51.5 million counterfeit soums.
