IAEA: Two drones hit the territory of Zaporizhia NPP
Three incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles have been reported at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in the past few days. According to the IAEA, one of them injured two plant employees. Radiation levels at the facility remain within normal limits.
IAEA: Two drones attack Zaporizhia nuclear power plant
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on August 28 that three drone incidents were recorded this week at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which is controlled by Russian troops.
According to the agency, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, near the plant's cooling pool, injuring two nuclear power plant employees.
The following day, August 26, two more drones struck the plant. One exploded in a dry storage area for spent nuclear fuel, while the other damaged a water sprayer for the power unit system.
Despite these incidents, the IAEA reported that radiation levels at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant were within normal limits.
The agency's director general, Rafael Grossi, described the attacks on nuclear facilities as "unacceptable." He once again called on the parties to exercise maximum military restraint in order to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP is located in the territory of Ukraine, which has been occupied by Russian troops since April 2022, and is under the control of the Russian side.
The IAEA statement did not provide information about who launched these drones.
