How the "white" taxi market in Uzbekistan has changed since the beginning of 2026

The Tax Committee of Uzbekistan has published data on the performance of the taxi market for January–August 2026.

There are 242 taxi aggregators connected to the information systems of the tax authorities. For comparison, there were 142 in the summer of 2024, 155 by the end of that same year, and 224 at the end of 2025.

Over the eight months, 329.04 million trips were made through aggregators. Revenue from the provision of taxi services exceeded 7.2 trillion soums.

Of this amount, 4.5 trillion soums, or 63.1%, came from cash payments, and another 2.6 trillion soums, or 36.9%, from cashless payments.

The share of cashless payments has increased significantly. For comparison: in 2024, this figure stood at 23.7%, and at the end of 2025, it was 27.8%.

The average price of a single trip reached 21,785.5 soums. At the end of 2024, the figure was 18,456 soums, and at the end of 2025, it was slightly over 20 thousand.

There are 481.1 thousand self-employed drivers transporting passengers through aggregators. In addition, according to the Tax Committee, 593 legal entities are registered in the system. For comparison, at the beginning of the year, the number of self-employed drivers was about 574.6 thousand.

There are 4,107 female drivers working through aggregators. Their number has decreased compared to the beginning of the year, when it was 4,726.

The Chevrolet Cobalt remains the most common model among taxi cars, accounting for 27% of the total number (up from 23.7% at the beginning of the year). This is followed by the Nexia at 19.3% and the Lacetti at 16.1%.

The share of electric vehicles rose to 2.5%, compared to 1.9% at the end of 2025.

The age structure of the cars has also changed.

The bulk of trips still occurs in the capital. According to data for January–August, Tashkent accounted for 45.3% of all trips made through aggregators. At the end of 2025, the capital accounted for 44.6% of trips.

For January–August 2026, taxi aggregators paid 149.2 billion soums in taxes, including 46.8 billion soums in VAT. For comparison, for the entirety of 2025, aggregators paid 128.2 billion soums in taxes, of which 63.6 billion soums were VAT.

At the end of 2023, the Committee for Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection reported that the Yandex Go service held a dominant position in Uzbekistan's taxi aggregator market with a share of 86.3%.

In January 2025, the President allowed self-employed citizens to provide taxi services on a permanent basis. Previously, a temporary procedure was in place for them. At the same time, instructions were given to regulate the activities of aggregators and clearly define their obligations to the state, drivers, and passengers.
