Fares for Tashkent buses and metro with electronic payment may increase to 2,500 soums
In Tashkent, it is proposed to increase the fare for a single trip on buses and the metro using electronic payment from 1,700 to 2,500 soums — by 47% — starting October 1. New subscription passes and transfer fares are also planned. The increase is expected against the backdrop of rising budget expenditures for subsidizing public transport.

In Tashkent, starting October 1, it is proposed to set the cost of a single trip on public transport with electronic payment at 2,500 soums. For cash payments, the fare is planned to remain at 3,000 soums. The draft decision of the Tashkent City Kengash has been posted for discussion until September 19.
According to the draft, the new maximum fares are proposed to be introduced on bus routes and in the capital's metro. With electronic payment for a single trip, taking into account the promotional discount, the passenger will pay 47% more — 2,500 soums (currently 1,700 soums), and 3,000 soums when paying in cash. Baggage transportation is proposed to be set at 4,000 soums. All amounts include VAT.
The increase in the electronic fare is proposed against the backdrop of rising costs for subsidizing public transport. According to forecasts, in 2026, with a service volume of 2.3 trillion soums, fare revenues will amount to only 630 billion soums, or about 27.4%. The need for budget funding is estimated at approximately 1.7 trillion soums.
The draft also provides for new tariff plans for transport cards depending on the number of trips, as well as discounted and free fares for transfers between types of public transport within one hour.

The draft retains the system of discounts for transfers within one hour. For trips only on buses, the first trip will cost 2,500 soums, the second — 1,500 soums, and the third and subsequent ones within an hour — free of charge.
For a combination of bus and metro, the first trip will also cost 2,500 soums, subsequent transfers — 1,500 soums or free of charge, depending on the sequence of trips. It is proposed to allow the metro to be used only once within a single one-hour tariff. Upon re-entering the metro, the 60-minute period will start anew.
In August, the Institute for Reducing the Share of the Shadow Economy under the Ministry of Economy and Finance proposed to gradually bring public transport fares closer to an economically justified level.
According to its data, in 2026, subsidies for public transport reached 1.385 trillion soums, and in Tashkent, they cover 65.1% of the transport system's expenses. The institute also proposed optimizing underutilized routes and linking payments to carriers to service quality indicators.
The last time the public transport fare in Tashkent was increased was from 1,400 to 1,700 soums in November 2023.
