Everything in Uzbekistan is becoming more expensive, but sugar is not: what happened to food prices in September
In September, sugar turned out to be one of the few products whose cost did not increase. According to the National Statistics Committee, its price fell by an average of 0.9% over the month, and over the year the price barely changed, with an increase of only 0.1%.
At the same time, most basic food products became more expensive over the month. Rice and broken rice increased in price by 1%, buckwheat by 1.1%, and eggs by a significant 5.3%.
Meat also continued to become more expensive: bone-in beef by 1.7%, mutton by 1.3%, and boneless beef by 1.1%. The cost of chicken drumsticks, thighs, and other chicken parts increased by 1.2%. Raw and whole milk rose in price by 0.8%, and butter also by 0.8%.
The annual dynamics look noticeably harsher. Over the year, mutton became more expensive by 19.8%, boneless beef by 17.9%, bone-in beef by 16.2%, and eggs by 11.4%.
In the fruit and vegetable market, September changes were largely determined by seasonality. Citrus fruits fell in price by 12%, grapes by 5.7%, apples by 2.4%, and bananas by 1.7%.
At the same time, a number of vegetables rose significantly in price. Tomatoes became more expensive by a sharp 14.2%, cucumbers by 13.5%, and carrots by 12.4%. Eggplants increased in price by 4.7%, bell peppers by 4.9%, and onions by 2.6%.
Thus, against the background of a general rise in prices in the food basket, it was sugar that moved in the opposite direction in September.
