Chess players will receive prizes up to 200 thousand dollars
A new procedure has been established in Uzbekistan for encouraging athletes who show high results in international chess competitions and the coaches who train them. The relevant document entered into force on September 23.
According to the new procedure, the highest prize will be awarded to Uzbek chess players who win among adults at the World Chess Olympiad and Paralympiad.
Separate incentive amounts have also been established for the winners of the World Youth Chess Olympiad and Paralympiad.
One-time prizes are also provided for chess players and their coaches who achieve high results in world-class competitions included in the FIDE classification.
Prizes are also separately established for those who become winners and prize-winners in FIDE competitions at the Asian level.
In addition, in order to support the professional growth of chess players, it was determined that a chess player who receives the international grandmaster sports title will be awarded a one-time prize in the amount of 5 thousand US dollars.
The decision also pays special attention to the issue of encouraging coaches. In particular, the prize money will be given to the coach who trained the athlete during the last one year before the competition. In some cases, based on the decision of the Coaches Council, this money may be redistributed among the specialists who participated in training the athlete during the last four years.
Thus, the new procedure envisages not only material incentives for the results of chess players in the international arena, but also decent support for coaches who play an important role in their high-level preparation.
Under the previously effective procedure, a prize of 880 million soums was set for a gold medal, 440 million soums for silver, and 220 million soums for bronze at the World Chess Olympiad and Paralympiad among adults. With the new decision, prizes in this category were replaced with new amounts expressed in US dollars.
The President's decision updated the mechanisms for encouraging Uzbek athletes and their coaches who show high results in international competitions in the field of chess. The new prize amounts constitute an important part of the system of material incentives for the country's chess players for results in international competitions.
