Uzbek chess players will be paid up to $200,000 for victories in international tournaments

Uzbek chess players and their coaches will start receiving increased one-time payments for podium finishes in international competitions. The new prize amounts were approved by the President of Uzbekistan.

The largest prize is designated for gold at the adult World Chess Olympiad and Paralympiad. The winner will receive $200,000, the silver medalist — $100,000, and the bronze medalist — $50,000.

For the Youth Olympiad, the payments will be $20,000 for gold, $10,000 for silver, and $5,000 for bronze.

For a victory in world-level competitions under the FIDE classification, a chess player will receive $15,000. For second place, $7,500 will be paid, and for third — $3,750.

At Asian-level tournaments, the prizes will be $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500 respectively.

Separately, $5,000 is provided for achieving the title of International Grandmaster.

Coaches of the athletes will also receive prizes. For training the winner of the adult World Chess Olympiad, the mentor will be paid $50,000. For silver and bronze medalists — $25,000 and $12,500.

At the same time, the prize is received by the coach who trained the athlete during the last year. By decision of the Coaches' Council, the payment can be distributed among the specialists who worked with the chess player over the last four years.

The prize amounts have increased significantly. For example, for gold at the adult World Chess Olympiad, $200,000 will now be paid instead of the previous $2,000.

Currently, the 46th World Chess Olympiad is taking place in Samarkand. Within the framework of the FIDE Congress, the election of a new president of the International Chess Federation will also be held.
