"Central Asia needs to be connected by a transport and logistics network" — Shavkat Mirziyoyev

The countries of Central Asia must be united by a modern transport and logistics network. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, held on October 8 in the "Avaza" national tourist zone in Turkmenistan.

"We can become one of the key land routes of global trade and, at the same time, a major hub of economic activity. But to achieve this, merely building roads and railways is not enough. We need a common logic for the development of transport infrastructure," said the head of state.

He emphasized that major projects must be coordinated with one another so that the routes continue each other and "work as a single system."

According to the president, production facilities, logistics and service centers, and industrial zones should be opened along the new transport corridors.

"Then, the transport route creates an economy around itself and brings a much greater effect to each state it passes through," Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted.

He proposed accelerating the creation of the Council for Infrastructure Development and holding its first meeting in Uzbekistan.
