Cengiz Holding intends to launch another power plant in Uzbekistan by the end of the year
Turkish company Cengiz Holding plans to commission a 550 MW combined-cycle power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan by the end of 2026. This was announced by the chairman of the holding's board, Mehmet Cengiz, at a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 16.
According to the businessman, Cengiz Holding is implementing its third energy project in Uzbekistan, the cost of which is estimated at approximately 800 million dollars. The holding's total investment in the country, he stated, has exceeded 900 million dollars.
"After implementing projects in the Tashkent and Syrdarya regions, we plan to launch a power plant in Jizzakh by the end of the year. As a result, the total installed capacity of the facilities we built will reach 1010 MW," Mehmet Cengiz said during an open dialogue with investors in the fuel and energy sector.
, representing the holding's energy projects in Uzbekistan, lists 480 MW of operating capacity and 1030 MW including Jizzakh.
He also reported that the company is considering the possibility of implementing a fourth investment project in Uzbekistan.
According to Cengiz, Cengiz Holding has energy capacity with a total installed capacity of about 6000 MW, as well as plants for the production of copper, cobalt, and aluminum.
The holding operates outside Turkey, including in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Syria, Romania, and the United Kingdom. The company is also involved in the implementation of infrastructure projects in European countries.
The businessman noted that Cengiz Holding is considering opportunities to expand investments not only in energy, but also in other sectors of Uzbekistan's economy.
In particular, he drew attention to the need to develop infrastructure for energy projects, including gas supply, power transmission lines, and distribution networks.
In response, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited the head of the holding to submit proposals for participating in the construction of New Tashkent, taking into account the company's experience in the infrastructure and construction sectors.
Later, commenting on the outcome of a separate meeting with the head of state, Mehmet Cengiz confirmed his interest in further expanding operations in Uzbekistan. "We intend to implement a fourth, and possibly a fifth project here," he stated.
According to the president's press service, during the negotiations, the prospects for constructing new thermal power plants, modernizing electrical distribution networks, and expanding cooperation in the geological sector were also discussed.
Two thermal power plants have previously been commissioned in Uzbekistan with the participation of Cengiz Holding — in the Tashkent and Syrdarya regions. According to previously published official data, their total installed capacity is 460 MW.
In November 2023, the president signed a decree on the construction of a 550 MW combined-cycle power plant in the Sharof Rashidov district of the Jizzakh region.
At that time, the project cost was estimated at 500 million dollars, and the commissioning of the facility was planned for 2025. It was expected that the power plant would generate over 4 billion kWh of electricity annually and save at least 700 million cubic meters of natural gas.
The decree also provides for the purchase of electricity by the National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan for 25 years. Obligations to provide the plant with natural gas and industrial water are assigned to the relevant state organizations.
