"We used to watch a one-hour movie for five hours because the power kept going out" – the president recalled his childhood years

At a meeting with filmmakers, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke about how masterpiece works were once created in Uzbek cinema, but later "Uzbekfilm" fell into a difficult situation.

"There used to be one cinema in our village. But not everyone could fit in there. We used to watch movies by climbing trees. But after the movie started, the power would go out 15 times. We used to watch a one-hour movie for five hours.

We have lived through such days. Let us recall movies like 'The Whole Neighborhood is Talking About It', 'Days Gone By', 'The Mischievous Boy', 'Duel Under the Plane Tree', and 'Granny-General'.

Just hearing a scene, a single word, or a familiar tune from them brings back our childhood, our grandparents, and our beloved neighborhood before our eyes.

Regardless of my position today, I am also a person who grew up in a village, without being separated from the people. I will never forget those days of mine. Neither my school, nor that movie hall of ours, nor our sitting up in the trees, nor playing football at night until our feet bled because there was no stadium.

Those who were able to create national works of art deserve praise. In the years of independence, our creators fittingly continued this school created by 'Uzbekfilm', and movies pleasing to our people were created, such as 'Abdullajon', 'Fields Left by My Father', 'Dancing Melodies', 'Motherland', and 'Yurt'.

Who remembers the condition of a film studio with such a grand history 10 years ago? There was apparently an expression 'Uzbekfilm soaps'. There was also talk of 'Uzbekfilm putties'. Talks about 'Uzbekfilm paints' are not forgotten.

Therefore, from the very first days of our reforms, we paid special attention to restoring 'Uzbekfilm' and creating decent conditions for creators," the head of state said.
