"Are our national films meeting the viewers' demand? Unfortunately, no!" – President
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is holding a meeting with filmmakers at the "Uzbekfilm" film studio on October 26. The current state of national cinematography, the reforms implemented in the sector, and existing problems are being discussed.
The head of state emphasized that the "Uzbekfilm" film studio is a venue that embodies the history of our national cinema, the work of several generations of artists, and the hopes and aspirations of our people.
It was noted that films such as "Mahallada duv-duv gap" (The Whole Neighborhood Is Talking), "O'tgan kunlar" (Days Gone By), "Shum bola" (The Mischievous Boy), "Chinor ostidagi duel" (Duel Under the Plane Tree), and "Suyunchi" hold a special place in the memory of the people.
The President announced that over the last decade, the "Uzbekfilm" film studio has been fully reconstructed, and two decrees and eight resolutions aimed at developing the sector have been adopted.
While 10 billion soums were allocated from the state budget for film production in 2016, this figure reached 218 billion soums in 2026.
It was also noted that in recent years, historical films such as "Islamkhodja", "Ibrat", "Avloniy", "Abdulla Qodiriy", "Qo'qon shamoli" (The Wind of Kokand), "Muqimiy", "Ilhaq", "O'zbek qizi" (Uzbek Girl), and "Bahodir Yalangto'sh" have been created.
Attention was also drawn to problems in the national film art during the meeting. In particular, the President reacted to the view that people have stopped going to cinemas due to the development of social networks.
"So, the audience has not given up on cinema or going to movie theaters; only their taste and demand have changed. Are our national films meeting this demand? Unfortunately, no!" Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
According to the head of state, one of the main reasons for this is that an integrated system – distribution – from film production to delivering them to the audience, has not been formed.
The President noted that much work still needs to be done to bring the national film art to a new stage.
