"Uzbekfilm has a loan of 22.9 million euros." Jahongir Ahmedov, head of the Cinematography Agency, on the current state of the film studio

The Uzbekfilm film studio has a loan of 22.9 million euros. The head of the Cinematography Agency Jahongir Ahmedov provided information about the current state of the film studio.
The Uzbekfilm film studio, which occupies an important place in the history of Uzbek cinema, is currently facing serious financial difficulties. The studio is faced with a large amount of loan obligations, tax and salary arrears. It is said that even its property and land plots have been pledged for the loan. Jahongir Ahmedov, the director of the Cinematography Agency, reported this on his Instagram page.
According to Ahmedov, there are many problems, but the most important task now is to save Uzbekfilm and free it from the mortgage.
He noted that Uzbekfilm has a loan obligation of 22.9 million euros, and the studio's property, including land plots, has been pledged for this loan.
In addition, due to the accumulated tax debt of more than 1 billion soums, there is a risk that 12 cars on the film studio's balance sheet will be auctioned within 12 days. There are also large debts on employee salaries.
The film studio cannot survive if it does not fulfill orders worth at least 60 billion soums per year, that is, it has become practically dependent on state orders. The studio does not have a business model and has not fully transitioned to the market mechanism.
According to Ahmedov, these are not just numbers, but the century-old history of Uzbek cinema, its reputation and destiny are behind these numbers. Many great directors, actors, cameramen, artists and film specialists began their careers at Uzbekfilm. Many films that our people still love and watch today were created here.
Jahongir Odilkhodjayevich Ahmedov was appointed to the position of First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Director of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan by presidential decree on July 10, 2026. Prior to this, the Cinematography Agency was headed by Shukhrat Rizayev.
