Basalt against the frost: almost 2.9 thousand apartment buildings to be insulated in Uzbekistan
Thermal insulation of facades will reduce energy consumption by 30–40%, expects the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services. In Uzbekistan, the program to improve the energy efficiency of apartment buildings is being expanded. In 2024–2030, it is planned to insulate 2,866 houses with a total area of over 4.4 million square meters. Basalt thermal insulation is used as one of the materials. **Basalt Against Frost: Almost 2.9 Thousand Multi-Story Buildings to Be Insulated in Uzbekistan**
Facade thermal insulation, according to calculations by the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, will allow reducing energy consumption by 30–40%.
Uzbekistan is expanding its program to increase the energy efficiency of apartment buildings. In 2024–2030, it is planned to insulate 2,866 houses with a total area of more than 4.4 million square meters. Basalt thermal insulation is among the materials used.
This was announced at the press conference "Energy Tariff Reforms and Social Support for the Population" by Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Ozoda Dzhuraeva.
She noted that the abnormal frosts of recent years have clearly demonstrated the need to reduce heat loss in apartment buildings and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
In Tashkent, on an experimental basis, work has already been carried out in a number of multi-story buildings constructed before 1991. As noted at the press conference, cladding exterior walls with basalt materials allows reducing energy consumption by 30–40%.
In 2024–2026, thermal insulation work covered more than 2.281 million square meters in 1,834 apartment buildings across seven regions of the country. Of these, 1,481 buildings are located in Jizzakh Region, 186 in Syrdarya Region, and 103 in Andijan Region. Work was also carried out in Tashkent, as well as in Tashkent, Surkhandarya, and Fergana Regions.
In Nukus, a building is being insulated with support from Germany. As part of international cooperation with the German organization GIZ, a pilot project is being implemented to increase the energy efficiency of a 60-apartment building in Nukus. The project provides for cladding 2,600 square meters of the facade with basalt materials and insulating 1,112 square meters of the roof. At present, more than 60% of the construction and installation work has been completed.
In 2027–2030, facade thermal insulation is planned to be carried out in 1,032 apartment buildings in Andijan, Bukhara, Samarkand, and Chirchik. The total work area will exceed 2.123 million square meters.
The World Bank allocated a $2 million grant for the preparation of pre-project documentation under this program.
