Akbar Joʻrayev broke records to become the Asian Games champion

Akbar Joʻrayev (-110 kg), a representative of the Uzbekistan national weightlifting team, became the winner of the Asian Games, as expected.

In the snatch, he broke the world record with a result of 197 kg. The record in this discipline previously belonged to him: he had set two records at the World Championships in Norway in October 2025, with 196 kg in the snatch and 428 kg in total.

Then, in the clean and jerk, he recorded 226 kg on his very first attempt (an Asian Games record), and there was no need for the remaining attempts. His opponents, however, could not exceed 222 kg even after three attempts.

As a result, Joʻrayev finished with a total of 423 kg in the biathlon, which was also an Asian Games record.

For reference, Akbar Joʻrayev is an Olympic champion, a two-time Asian champion, and a three-time world champion. At the same time, this was his first Asian Games gold — at the 2022 competition in Hangzhou, he had to settle for a silver medal.

His gold medal became the 13th gold for the delegation of Uzbekistan. Currently, Uzbekistan ranks fourth in the overall standings with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 13 bronze medals, making a total of 43 medals.
