About 900 students from Uzbekistan are receiving nuclear education in Russian universities
Around 900 citizens of Uzbekistan are studying nuclear and related disciplines at Russian universities. As part of the personnel training for the industry, future specialists undergo internships at operating Russian reactors and hone their skills on special simulators.
Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, announced this on October 23 at the "Atom-2050" youth forum. Another roughly 350 students are studying at the Tashkent branch of MEPhI.
Special attention is paid to training personnel for small nuclear reactors. The first contracts for training specialists to work at such facilities in Uzbekistan are expected in 2027.
Meanwhile, more than a thousand people are already employed at the site of the future nuclear power plant. According to Likhachev, their number is planned to double next year, and at the peak of construction, it could grow to 12–13 thousand. The head of Rosatom also stated that Uzbek contractors will be able to perform up to 40% of the work on the project.
Likhachev added that Rosatom is ready to participate in new nuclear projects in Uzbekistan after the completion of the current one. He did not specify the exact parameters of the possible expansion of cooperation.
The day before, delegations from Uzatom and Rosatom visited the construction site of the nuclear workers' town in the Farish District of the Jizzakh Region. The project involves the construction of about 10,000 apartments for nearly 33,000 residents, as well as schools, kindergartens, medical facilities, and other infrastructure.
