The Rosatom Technical Academy has begun developing a comprehensive personnel training system for the future nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The plan is to establish a full-fledged training center on the customer's premises.

The Rosatom Technical Academy has begun developing training programs and teaching materials for personnel at the future nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. This work began following the groundbreaking ceremony held in June.

Personnel training will be carried out in accordance with the project's implementation stages. Academy specialists are developing training schedules to ensure that the theoretical and practical training of personnel corresponds to the specific stages of construction and subsequent commissioning of the nuclear facility.

Particular attention is being paid to adapting educational programs to the technological specifics of the future plant. In particular, training courses will be promptly adjusted to address new technological challenges. At the Novovoronezh branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy alone, approximately 50 subject matter experts are involved in developing training programs for Uzbek specialists.

From Reactor Facilities to Radiation Safety

The training program includes plans to develop a comprehensive package of training courses covering key areas of nuclear power plant operation.

"By the end of December, we plan to create a comprehensive set of training courses covering all critical aspects of nuclear power plant operation: from the reactor shop, turbine shop, electrical shop, chemical shop, thermal automation and measurement shop, to radioactive waste management, metal flaw detection, and the methodological foundations of control and inspection," said Sergey Bukin, Director of the Theoretical and Practical Training Center at the Novovoronezh branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy.

Therefore, the training will cover not only the direct operation of power equipment but also a wide range of related processes, including control, technical diagnostics, and radioactive waste management.

Specialist training will begin in 2027.

The Technical Academy notes that the educational program will be adapted to the specifics of small reactors. This will require integrating knowledge from related fields and strengthening the practical component of training.

"The Technical Academy has begun active preparations for training personnel for the integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. During the preparatory period, we will need to adapt training materials to the specifics of small reactors, integrate knowledge from related fields, and strengthen the practical component," explained Ruslan Magda, the Technical Academy's project director.

According to him, this involves more than just training specialists for the plant's launch. In the future, Uzbekistan plans to develop a comprehensive educational infrastructure that will be able to provide personnel for the country's developing nuclear industry.

"We envision the creation of a full-fledged training center in Uzbekistan itself. We will begin training not just operators for launches—the Technical Academy will create an educational environment in which hundreds of specialists for the entire nuclear industry will be able to train in the future," noted Ruslan Magda.

The first stage of training, which includes theoretical instruction and practical skills training on a full-scale simulator, is planned to begin after all training modules have been developed and approved, beginning in early 2027.

Human Resources for Nuclear Energy Development

The creation of a specialized training system is a key element in the development of Uzbekistan's nuclear industry. Pre-training specialists, synchronized with the plant's construction phases, will help develop the necessary professional foundation for its subsequent operation.

In the long term, the establishment of a training center directly in Uzbekistan can provide conditions for the ongoing training and professional development of specialists needed not only for this single plant but also for the further development of the national nuclear energy sector.

Thus, alongside the creation of the energy infrastructure, the human resources infrastructure for Uzbekistan's future nuclear industry is also being developed, in which modern educational programs, practical training, and simulator facilities will play a key role.
