A day without gold medals at the Asian Games: two athletes lost in the finals

On October 1, the 12th day of the Asian Games, representatives of the Uzbekistan delegation competed in 12 sports, but ended the day without a gold medal.

Only two silver medals were won during the day — Shahram Ahadov in judo and Alisher Ganiyev in Greco-Roman wrestling reached the finals, but lost in the decisive bouts.

The Uzbekistan judo team participated in today's program with 5 athletes.

Shahram Ahadov had a successful tournament. The reigning Asian champion defeated Sayid Mhammad Sayidiy of Afghanistan (ippon) in the preliminary round, An Jaehong of South Korea (ippon) in the quarterfinals, and Tatsuki Ishihara of Japan (yuko) in the semifinals.

However, in the final, he lost to Kazbek Naguchev, originally from Russia, who competed on behalf of the UAE, and settled for a silver medal.

Arslonbek Tojiyev lost to Abubakr Sherov of Tajikistan in the very first round. Since the Tajik wrestler could not reach the final, Tojiyev did not get a chance to fight for bronze.

In turn, three representatives of the girls' team also fought for bronze.

Shukurjon Aminova first defeated Janar Joldosheva of Kyrgyzstan (ippon), then Dana Abdirova of Kazakhstan (ippon), but lost in the semifinals to the favorite of this weight category — world champion and Olympic finalist Huh Mi-mi. The Korean athlete then reached the final and became the champion, which allowed Aminova to fight for bronze. However, the Uzbek judoka lost to Mio Shirakane of Japan by ippon in the medal bout.

Marjona Nurillayeva lost to Kim Ji-hye of the DPRK in her first bout (waza-ari). Since her opponent reached the final, Nurullayeva had a chance to fight for bronze. She first overcame Adina Kochkonbaeva of Kyrgyzstan in the repechage (yuko), but lost to Esmigul Kuyulova of Kazakhstan in the medal bout (waza-ari).
