35-year development path: Uzbekistan's new stage in the eyes of international experts

Today, on August 14, an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, entitled "Independent Uzbekistan - 35-year development path: reforms, results and prospects", began its work in Tashkent.

This conference is attended by members of the parliament of Uzbekistan, representatives of ministries and departments, as well as delegates from the parliaments of Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, experts from international organizations such as the UN.

The main areas of discussion were focused on constitutional modernization, the development of parliamentarism and the transformation of public administration into a system in which human interests are paramount. According to the participants, the changes in the last decade are of profound socio-political significance.

International experts who spoke at the conference emphasized the importance of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.

**Sabine Machl (UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan):**

“In recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, it is necessary to recognize the large-scale changes in Uzbekistan aimed at putting human values and interests at the center of reforms. The country is clearly striving to harmonize economic reforms with social development, effective state institutions and the protection of human rights.”

“We are proud to observe Uzbekistan’s great and bold steps towards a bright future under the far-sighted and wise leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. History shows that independence is strengthened through strong state institutions, the rule of law, a stable economy, national unity and citizens’ trust in the state.”

**Parliamentarism and the Future**

The conference participants put forward their proposals for further liberalization of legislation and strengthening parliamentary oversight.

It was noted that the goals of the "Uzbekistan - 2030" strategy fully support initiatives for close cooperation between parliaments and international organizations.

Experts identified the exchange of experience in environmental sustainability, human capital development, and support for the digital economy as key areas of future cooperation.

**"Tashkent Declaration on Interparliamentary Cooperation"**

In the final part of the conference, the "Tashkent Declaration on Interparliamentary Cooperation" is expected to be adopted, aimed at systematically establishing interparliamentary dialogue. This document will serve as a solid legal foundation for strengthening mutual trust and respect between the participating states, exchanging experience in the field of lawmaking, and promoting joint initiatives.
