Tashkent Metro serves 155.6 million passengers in first half of 2026
Tashkent Metro transported 155.6 million passengers during the first six months of 2026, a 7% increase compared with the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Committee.
The Tashkent Metro transported 155.6 million passengers during the first six months of 2026. This continues a robust rebound in ridership since the pandemic, building on the record 286.8 million passenger trips recorded in 2025, which was the highest annual total in the metro system's history.
According to the committee, the 2025 figure surpassed the 2000 total of 125.7 million passengers by 161.1 million, marking an increase of almost 2.3 times.
Ridership experienced a consistent decline for much of the 2000s and early 2010s, reaching its lowest point of 52.3 million passengers in 2015. Passenger numbers subsequently began to rise, only to fall again to 38.8 million in 2020 due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to public transportation.
The recovery gained momentum in the subsequent years. Annual ridership climbed to 101.8 million in 2021, further increased to 136.7 million in 2022, and reached 172 million in 2023. It then surged to 270.3 million in 2024 before reaching its peak of 286.8 million in 2025.
