Tashkent Metro to Enforce Speed Limits on Elevated Lines Due to High Temperatures
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Beginning on July 15, 2026, the Tashkent Metro will implement temporary speed limits on its elevated lines in response to unusually high temperatures and rail temperatures exceeding safe levels.
Metro authorities stated that this measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and operations. Under current safety protocols, if the temperature of the steel rails surpasses the maximum threshold of 55°C, train speeds on the elevated sections will be reduced from 60 km/h to 40 km/h each day until 6:00 PM.
These temporary measures are anticipated to have a partial impact on headway intervals. The metro administration cautioned that waiting times on the affected lines may extend to as much as 14 minutes.
Officials from the metro highlighted that these restrictions will only apply to trains on the elevated lines and will not impact services on the underground segments of the transit system.
