Surkhandarya Region Imposes Restrictions on Heavy Truck Traffic Due to High Temperatures
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has announced temporary restrictions on heavy vehicle movement in the Surkhandarya Region due to unusually high air temperatures.
The ministry clarified that this action is intended to protect the road surface and prevent its early deterioration under extreme heat conditions.
Currently, daytime temperatures in the region are reported to be between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing even higher readings. In such conditions, the temperature of asphalt concrete can soar to between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius, which diminishes its load-bearing capacity.
As a consequence, heavy vehicle traffic can lead to rutting, deformation of the road surface, and other forms of technical damage.
Therefore, heavy-duty vehicles are restricted from using public roads that link the city of Termez with the district centers of the Surkhandarya Region from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.
The Ministry of Transport urged truck drivers, along with businesses and organizations involved in freight transport, to adhere to these restrictions and to plan their routes and delivery schedules in advance, considering the established traffic timetable.
The ministry emphasized that such measures are implemented during periods of extreme heat to safeguard road infrastructure and prolong the lifespan of highways.
