The Tashkent City Court has refuted claims that it rejected an attorney's appeal in the Real Sanjik case, confirming the hearing will resume on 20 July 2026.

Tashkent Court Addresses Appeal Matters in Real Sanjik Case
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Tashkent City Court has responded to media claims regarding an appeal submitted by one of Sanjar Karimov's lawyers, known as Real Sanjik, which was reportedly not accepted by the court. The court confirmed that the appellate review of the criminal case will continue on 20 July 2026.
As per the court's press service, the Judicial Panel for Criminal Cases of the Tashkent City Court is currently reviewing the criminal case against Sanjar Karimov on appeal, following the initial ruling from the first instance court.
This clarification comes in light of statements from Oybek Ashurov, one of the defendant's defense attorneys, who alleged that the court had dismissed his appeal, leading to multiple postponements of the hearings.
The city court noted that prior to one of the earlier sessions, the trial was indeed postponed after the lawyer presented relevant arguments. However, an investigation showed that the electronic appeal was actually filed with the district court on 30 June 2026, rather than on 18 May 2026 as previously stated.
The court explained that the legally mandated deadline had already lapsed by the time the appeal was submitted. Nevertheless, the verdict had not yet become legally binding, as the case was under appellate review due to timely appeals from other defense attorneys representing the defendant.
Considering these factors, the judicial panel approved Oybek Ashurov's request to extend the missed deadline for filing the appeal. Following this decision, the lawyer continued to engage in the case proceedings alongside the other defense attorneys.
The court's press service highlighted the significant role of legal defense in the justice system, which warrants respect. However, the court cautioned that lawyers should avoid presenting their legal opinions through the media as absolute truths, as this could mislead the public.
The next hearing to consider the appeal is set for 20 July 2026.
On 8 May 2026, the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Criminal Court convicted Sanjar Karimov of fraud, threats of murder or violence, and charges related to the illegal possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances, sentencing him to five years in prison.
