Brothers arrested for extortion in cottage sale in Tashkent
A previously convicted person and his brother conspired to buy a cottage built in the Tashkent district for $66,000. They paid the owner $30,000, promised to pay the rest in 6 months, and had the cottage notarized.
A brother and sister were arrested in connection with the extortion case related to the purchase and sale of a cottage in Tashkent. The State Security Service reported this.
According to the report, a previously convicted person born in 1979 and his brother born in 1988 agreed to buy a cottage built by a local citizen in the Tashkent district for $66,000.
Initially, they paid the owner $30,000 and promised to pay the remaining $36,000 within 6 months. In May 2022, they notarized the cottage in the name of their brother, born in 1976. However, the brothers later said that they would not pay the remaining $36,000 and threatened to harass the citizen if he demanded the money.
The brothers were detained as a result of operational measures carried out by the Tashkent City Department of the State Security Service and the capital's Internal Affairs Directorate. A criminal case has been initiated against them under Article 165, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” (extortion in a large amount) of the Criminal Code. Under this article, the guilty parties are sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years.
Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
