Extortion scheme behind cottage sales exposed in Tashkent

A case of extortion related to the purchase and sale of a cottage was exposed in Tashkent. This was revealed during an operational event held by the State Security Service and the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs.

It turned out that a resident of Tashkent, born in 1979, with a previous conviction, and his brother, born in 1988, agreed to buy a cottage in the Tashkent district belonging to a local citizen for 66 thousand US dollars.

Initially, they paid the landlord 30 thousand US dollars and promised to pay the remaining 36 thousand dollars within six months. After that, in May 2022, the cottage was notarized in the name of their brother, born in 1976.

However, according to the investigation, the brothers later refused to pay the remaining 36 thousand US dollars. They also threatened to put pressure on the landlord if he demanded the money.

During the raid, the suspects were detained. A criminal case has been initiated against them under Article 165, Part 3, Subparagraph "a" (extortion) of the Criminal Code.

Currently, preliminary investigations are underway into this case.
