Extortion scheme uncovered in Tashkent during cottage sale
Two brothers, having purchased a house for $66,000, refused to pay the remaining balance and threatened the owner. A criminal case has been opened against them for extortion.
An extortion attempt involving a cottage sale and purchase was foiled in Tashkent.
Officers from the State Security Service and the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs conducted an operation that resulted in the cessation of a criminal extortion ring involving real estate.
It was discovered that two brothers, both residents of Tashkent (one of them, born in 1979 with a previous criminal record, and his brother, born in 1988), had agreed to purchase a cottage in the Tashkent district. The price of the property was $66,000. The buyers made a down payment of $30,000, agreeing to pay the remaining $36,000 within six months. In May 2022, ownership of the cottage was registered in the elder brother's name.
However, the brothers subsequently refused to fulfill their financial obligations to pay the remaining amount. Furthermore, they began threatening the seller with physical violence if he insisted on repayment.
The suspects were detained during the operation. A criminal case has been opened against them under paragraph "a" of Part 3 of Article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Extortion).
Investigative actions are currently underway.
