You can bring any amount of cash into Uzbekistan, but there is a nuance. What do tourists need to know?

Tourists are entitled to bring cash into Uzbekistan without any limit on the amount. However, if the total volume exceeds the equivalent of 100 million sums, all funds must be specified in the customs declaration. This is especially important for those who plan to take out of the country the money remaining after the trip.

Upon entry, it is necessary to declare all available cash in foreign and national currency if its total amount exceeds the established threshold. At the same time, smaller amounts can also be included in the declaration voluntarily.

Upon departure from Uzbekistan, cash within the equivalent of 100 million sums is allowed to be taken out without a declaration. If the amount is larger, additional customs requirements come into effect. For foreign citizens, in particular, the amount specified upon entry is what matters.

Why is it important to keep the declaration?

Tourists often forget to declare a large sum when crossing the border. During the trip, part of the money is spent, but the remaining balance may still exceed the established threshold. If there are no documents confirming the import of cash, difficulties may arise upon departure.

For example, a tourist brought $15,000 with them. This amount exceeds the equivalent of 100 million sums, so it must be specified in the declaration. Even if part of the money is spent during the trip, the saved declaration will help confirm the legal import of the balance, including if it exceeds the established threshold.

To avoid problems at customs, tourists are advised to: fully declare cash if its total amount exceeds the equivalent of 100 million sums; keep their copy of the declaration until leaving the country; take into account that the equivalent in sums is calculated at the rate of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan on the day of border crossing; if questions arise, clarify the requirements with customs officers before passing control.

Compliance with these rules will help avoid unpleasant surprises upon departure from Uzbekistan.

Since the beginning of the year, 10.3 million foreign tourists have already visited Uzbekistan — 20.4% more than in the same period of 2025. In addition, interest is growing not only from immediate neighbors, but also from countries further abroad.
