Work to vindicate the names of compatriots unjustly repressed during the USSR will continue - President
Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Alley of Martyrs on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Repression. The Quran was recited and prayers were offered for the martyrs of the homeland. It was emphasized that the noble work of vindicating the names of compatriots who were subjected to political repression on false charges of the "cotton case" and the "Uzbek case" in 1983-1990 and restoring historical justice would be consistently continued.
The President announced that the work of vindicating the names of compatriots unjustly repressed during the USSR will continue.
On August 28, representatives of state and public organizations, scholars, enlighteners, and intellectuals gathered at the Martyrs' Memorial Alley in Tashkent.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the ceremony commemorating the victims of repression. The Quran was recited and prayers were offered for the martyrs of the homeland.
The Quran was also recited near the symbolic grave in the alley. Here, the Head of State held a dialogue with scholars and intellectuals on the issues of preserving historical memory, restoring the names of the victims of repression, and educating young people in the spirit of patriotism.
“These days, together with our people, we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of our independence with great joy. For 35 years, we have been living freely and comfortably under such a peaceful and clear sky, without depending on anyone. This is a great happiness, an invaluable wealth. On such glorious days, it is our sacred duty to remember our heroic ancestors who died for independence and freedom, to pay tribute to their memory,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Head of State emphasized that the heroism of our selfless ancestors should never be forgotten, and their courage will always remain a source of spiritual strength for our people.
In recent years, large-scale work has been carried out to perpetuate the memory of the victims of repression and restore historical justice. The State Museum of Repression Victims in the Martyrs' Memory Alley has been completely reconstructed, its exposition has been enriched, and it has been equipped with modern technologies. The impact of exhibitions has been increased with the help of digital systems and artificial intelligence.
Museums of victims of repression established in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and all regions have also been equipped in accordance with the requirements of the time. Their funds are being enriched with unique documents and photographs from different parts of the world.
In 2021-2025, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan acquitted more than 1,200 of our compatriots who were victims of repression. This year, another 161 of our compatriots who were unjustly accused and imprisoned for various terms or sentenced to death during the former authoritarian regime were acquitted.
