Which alphabet will be used in the national certificate exams?

On October 24–26, national certificate exams in the native language and literature will be held in all regions. It was announced that the current Latin-based Uzbek alphabet will be used in the exams.

The test materials have been prepared in the current Latin-based Uzbek alphabet, and the answers to open-ended test tasks as well as written works (essays) must also be written in the current alphabet.

“The law on the introduction of the new alphabet stipulates that the new alphabet will enter into force after six months. Therefore, the exams conducted by the Agency will use the current alphabet, not the new one,” the message says.

On October 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law changing four letters in the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet.

The law provides for the following changes:

O‘ o‘ → Ö ö

G‘ g‘ → Ğ ğ

Sh sh → Ş ş

Ch ch → Ç ç

The letter "ng" is removed from the alphabet as an independent letter.

The apostrophe (tutuq belgisi) was retained in the alphabet.
