“We will change the weapons and geography of war.” Iran warned the US

Iran has warned that if another attack is launched by the US, “new weapons with new capabilities” will be deployed. This statement was made after US President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric toward Tehran over the weekend.

“If a new aggression occurs, we will undoubtedly change the weapons as well as the geography of war,” Hossein Mohebbi, a representative of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said in an interview with the Fars news agency on September 21.

Mohebbi did not comment on what exactly these new weapons consist of and which new territories could be targeted.

At the same time, Trump said he has not yet made a final decision on how to proceed with the war. The US President also threatened Iran, stating that his options for ending the war include destroying the country, exhausting them economically, or reaching a deal.

“I could wipe out an entire nation. They had better behave themselves,” Trump warned.

Trump had previously said he was highly likely ready to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The possibility of holding a meeting raised at least some hope of resolving the war with Iran, which has been ongoing for nearly seven months.

Meanwhile, Trump told Fox News that Washington is in constant contact with the Yemeni Houthis and that the group has agreed not to fight the US.

“The Houthis called us and they don't want to fight us. They prefer that we do not interfere and are not obstructing shipping,” he said in early September.

Nevertheless, the situation escalated on September 19. The Iran-backed Houthis attacked key facilities in the Saudi capital Riyadh and the Aramco oil facility in the port of Yanbu using ballistic missiles and drones.

The New York Times reported on September 21 that the US President had considered the option of launching joint strikes with Saudi Arabia against the Houthis on September 20, but ultimately decided against it.

As a result of the war in the Middle East, Iran has blocked the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Its allies in Yemen, the Houthis, blew up a key oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia and are threatening the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The resulting economic crisis has hit the US and global economies, causing oil and diesel prices to rise and leading to inflation.

The US President had previously stated that the war with Iran would not end before the midterm elections in November. He noted that oil prices would also not fall until then. Additionally, just the other day, Iran communicated its conditions for ending the war to the US through Qatar. On September 21, oil prices fell to their lowest level in over a week as hopes grew for the resumption of negotiations between the US and Iran.
