Uzbekistan’s average monthly wage lags behind Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Official data showed that average monthly gross wages in Uzbekistan reached $591 in the second quarter, putting the country below Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan released the figure. Kazakhstan was the highest among Central Asian countries at $988. The Eurasian Economic Commission said gross wages in Kyrgyzstan averaged $615 in the first half of 2026, while Tajikistan stood at $358.

In the first half of 2026, five Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members had higher wages than Uzbekistan. Russia had the bloc’s highest gross wage for January-June at $1,400, with Belarus next at more than $1,000.

Uzbekistan’s wage growth outpaced several larger economies. Its gross wage index was +18.4% from the same period a year earlier, ahead of Kazakhstan (+10.3%), Russia (+12.7%), Belarus (+13.2%) and Armenia (+5.5%).

Kyrgyzstan (+27.5%) and Tajikistan (+19.6%) posted the strongest growth indices among the countries mentioned.

The gross wage index measures wages in a given period against the same period a year earlier. The Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and CIS comparison figures refer to the first half of 2026, while Uzbekistan’s $591 figure is for the second quarter.

The CIS has eight member states once Moldova’s withdrawal takes effect: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Moldova’s parliament voted to leave in April, and the exit takes effect 12 months after the paperwork reaches the CIS Executive Committee. Turkmenistan is an associate member.
