The Uzbekistan U23 national team defeated Kuwait in the 2nd round of the group stage of the Asian Games taking place in Japan, securing their advancement to the next round.

The football tournament of the XX Summer Asian Games continues in Nagoya, Japan.
The Uzbekistan U23 national team played its second match in the group stage against Kuwait and secured a 2:0 victory. Both goals were scored by Sardor Bahromov in the first half. At the beginning of the second half, Roziboy Fayzullayev was sent off, but the Uzbek team defended reliably and maintained the necessary score.
Following this victory, the trainees of head coach Ravshan Haydarov reached 6 points, and the team secured a spot in the quarterfinals ahead of schedule. In the first round, the Uzbek team defeated the Philippines with a score of 5:1.
In another match in the group, Vietnam also defeated the Philippines with the same score and accumulated 4 points. The Uzbekistan youth team will play its final match to determine the group winner against Vietnam on September 22.
In the Asian Games football tournament, 15 teams are divided into four groups. The teams that take 1st and 2nd places in the groups will advance to the playoff stage. According to the regulations, teams can participate with a squad consisting of players under 23 years of age, as well as 3 players over the age of 23. The national team of Uzbekistan is participating in the tournament with an under-21 squad. This was done in order for the team that will participate in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers to gain sufficient experience.
The Asian Games football tournament has been held since 1990. Iran and South Korea have won the tournament 3 times each. Uzbekistan (in 1994), Qatar, and Japan have also won gold medals.
