Uzbekistan will increase freight transit tariffs to Afghanistan
The new order will come into force on November 7. Four categories of goods will be exempted from additional fees.

Uzbekistan to Increase Freight Transportation Tariffs to Afghanistan
Joint Stock Company "O'zbekiston Temir Yo'llari" ("Uzbekistan Railways") announced the introduction of additional fees for rail freight transportation to Afghanistan starting November 7, 2026.
This decision comes amid efforts by both countries to expand cooperation in trade and agriculture. According to the company, additional rail fees will range from 800,000 to 1.3 million soms ($67 to $109) per wagon, depending on the tariff category.
Afghan businessman Omid Haidari believes that the tariff increase could affect prices on the country's domestic market.
"An increase in the cost of transporting goods in wagons could lead to higher prices for goods in Afghanistan's markets. Uzbekistan cooperates with the people and government of Afghanistan in various fields. We also suggest reducing transport and transit fees," Omid Haidari stated.
The additional fees will apply to most goods transported to Afghanistan through the territory of Uzbekistan. However, wheat, oil, petroleum products, and gas are exempt from the new payments.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock held an online meeting with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan. The parties discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture and livestock farming.
In particular, they discussed opportunities for exporting Afghan meat and potatoes to Uzbekistan, developing cotton growing and horticulture, as well as establishing a seed production center.
"The meeting was organized to strengthen cooperation between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in the fields of agriculture and livestock farming, expand trade ties, develop joint investments, and exchange technical experience," said Ministry spokesman Sher Mohammad Khotami.
