In the Tashkent region, the theft of 13.9 billion sums from the budget was revealed during the construction of a wastewater treatment plant. Reports overestimated the cost of the work performed, although in fact less was spent. A criminal case has been opened.

The violation was discovered by officers of the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office during a pre-investigation check in the Zangiata district.

According to the agency, it concerns the construction of treatment facilities in Nurafshan. A contract for the execution of the work was concluded between an engineering company and the "Suvokova" enterprise.

However, the cost of the completed work was overstated in the documents. While actual expenses amounted to 73.3 billion sums, the figure of 87.2 billion appeared in the reports. The difference was 13.9 billion sums. According to investigators, the budget money could have been misappropriated or embezzled.

A criminal case has been opened regarding this fact under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. The investigation will continue; it will establish all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved.

Earlier, a major theft was uncovered in the Samarkand region — 1.1 billion sums were embezzled during the procurement of soap by employees of the regional department of preschool and school education.
