Uzbekistan to invest another $70 million to expand AI computing power

Uzbekistan intends to invest an additional $70 million in expanding its computing capacity for artificial intelligence projects. These funds will be used to modernize the existing cluster and create new infrastructure.

The development of computing resources was discussed during a presentation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the achievements and future challenges of developing an artificial intelligence ecosystem in the country.

Uzbekistan currently operates a supercomputer complex located in the Digital Government data center. This complex, built using technology from the American company NVIDIA, ranks 321st in the world in terms of computing power.

Since its commissioning, the system has demonstrated high demand for computing resources. Within the first month of operation, cluster utilization reached 90%, highlighting the demand for such capacity for both government and commercial projects.

To date, computing infrastructure worth a total of $24 million has been commissioned in the country. Further expansion through additional investment is planned, as well as the implementation of new projects in collaboration with international partners. Specifically, the possibility of establishing data centers in Karakalpakstan is being considered.

For the effective functioning of artificial intelligence systems, not only computing power but also the quality of the data used is critical. Therefore, ministries and agencies have been instructed to inventory existing information, verify its completeness and accuracy, and ensure data integration between various systems.

Furthermore, industry-specific datasets are planned for the development and implementation of AI solutions in the economy and social spheres.

Plans for the large-scale digitalization of Uzbekistan's water management system have been previously reported. A unified electronic platform is expected to launch in September 2026, containing information on all water infrastructure projects and groundwater data. Furthermore, JSC Uzsuvtaminot will create a new position of Deputy Chairman of the Board responsible for digitalization and the implementation of artificial intelligence.
