Uzbekistan's Energy Ministry launched a $85 million energy storage system in the Zangiata district to stabilize the grid.

Uzbekistan Launches 175 MW Energy Storage Facility

A 175 MW energy storage system with a capacity of 350 MWh was connected to the power grid in the Zangiata district of Tashkent region on 4 September 2026, according to Uzbekistan's Energy Ministry. The US$85 million project was implemented using foreign investments.

On the day of the connection, Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjayev visited the facility to review the launch process and grid integration. The system is currently connected to the power grid, with full capacity operation planned by the end of September 2026.

Built to improve power grid stability during peak demand periods, the facility will enable stored electrical energy to be used twice a day for two hours each time. The Energy Ministry said that using the stored power during high-demand hours will stabilize grid operations.
