Uzbekistan launches 20 MW Charvak wind power plant
Uzbekistan has commissioned the 20 MW Charvak wind power plant in Tashkent region with a US$28 million grant from China.

Uzbekistan has inaugurated the 20-megawatt (MW) Charvak wind power plant, situated in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region. This initiative received a US$28 million grant from the Chinese government, as announced by JSC UzHydroEnergo.
The plant officially commenced operations on August 20. The opening event saw the presence of Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Yu Jun, delegates from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, various energy and construction firms, UzHydroEnergo's leadership and staff, representatives from the Tashkent region and Bostanlyk district hokimiyats, local community leaders, and members of the media.
Comprising four wind turbines, each with a 5 MW capacity, the plant boasts a total installed capacity of 20 MW. Its annual electricity output is projected to reach 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).
UzHydroEnergo estimates that this electricity volume can power approximately 20,000 households. Furthermore, the plant is anticipated to alleviate strain on existing electricity grids and enhance the overall stability of the power system.
The project involved comprehensive construction and installation, the establishment of essential engineering infrastructure, grid connection, and the deployment of advanced wind turbines.
This undertaking is being highlighted as a testament to the ongoing collaboration between Uzbekistan and China, with China providing the US$28 million grant for its execution.
UzHydroEnergo anticipates that the plant's operation will lead to a decrease in the yearly consumption of natural gas and coal, alongside a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The company views this project as a significant step towards fostering environmentally sustainable energy and diminishing the nation's carbon footprint.
During the ceremony, the winners of the "Wind Power Plant Through the Eyes of Young Artists" competition were also recognized. Graduates from the P. Benkov Republican Specialized Art School were honored, and both winners and participants received certificates of merit and commemorative gifts from UzHydroEnergo.
The commissioning of the Charvak wind power plant precedes Uzbekistan's 35th anniversary of state independence.
