Scientists of Uzbekistan are creating a new phytocomplex based on local plants
At the Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the development of a new phytocomplex is underway. It is planned to include extracts of basil, astragalus, and other plants grown in the country in its composition. The first samples have already been obtained, which demonstrated antioxidant and antihypoxic properties.
The project, titled "Creation of phytocomplexes based on extracts of basil, astragalus, and related plants," is funded by the Agency for Innovative Development. Its cost is more than 1.4 billion soums, and its implementation is scheduled for 2025–2027. The research is led by Doctor of Biological Sciences Daniya Asilbekova.
Specialists are studying local varieties of basil, kiyikut, arslonkulok, and various species of astragalus. Special attention is paid to essential oils and other biologically active compounds, which are analyzed using modern methods. In the first stage, the most promising plants were selected, and technological samples of extracts were prepared.
Antioxidants help cells protect themselves from damage caused by free radicals, while antihypoxic properties allow them to be supported under conditions of oxygen deficiency.
In the future, the development could form the basis of products for the food and cosmetic industries manufactured from local raw materials.
At present, the work continues: scientists are refining the composition of the extracts and confirming their activity.
