Uzbekistan predicts a new rise in birth rates

Uzbekistan's birth rate is expected to resume growth after the current decline. By 2050, the annual number of births could exceed 1.2 million.

According to the Oila va Gender Institute, 892,700 children will be born in the country in 2030, exceeding 1 million in 2040, and reaching 1.23 million by 2050.

The birth rate is currently declining. After peaking at 962,000 in 2023, 879,600 births were recorded in 2025. The institute predicts that by the end of 2026, the total number of births will be around 800,000.

The overall fertility rate will also initially continue to decline and then begin to rise again. In 2030, it will reach 21.2 per thousand, in 2040 – 20.8 per thousand, and in 2050 – 21.9 per thousand. The highest rates by this time are expected in the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions – 24.7 and 23.8 per thousand, respectively.

The Institute does not specify which factors should contribute to a new increase in the birth rate in the long term.

It was previously reported that by the end of 2025, almost 880,000 births would have been registered in Uzbekistan.
