Uzbekistan opens $26mn Mercure hotel in Khiva

A new Mercure hotel has commenced operations in Khiva, Uzbekistan's Khorezm region, representing a $26 million foreign investment and capable of hosting up to 300 guests, as reported by the Tourism Committee.

Operating under the Mercure brand, a division of the global hospitality firm Accor, the hotel features 145 rooms and is projected to generate 200 employment opportunities. The Tourism Committee noted that Mercure marks the inaugural international hotel brand to enter the region. O‘zbekiston 24 television channel stated that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially opened the facility during his recent visit to the Khorezm region.

The hotel's construction was financed by $26 million in foreign investment. The Tourism Committee anticipates that this venture will stimulate job creation and boost tourism-related economic activity in the area. Accor initially unveiled plans for the Mercure hotel in Khiva in December 2022, when the hospitality group entered into an agreement with SRG Projects for the property's construction and opening, which was originally slated for 2025.

The hotel is situated close to Ichan-Kala, Khiva's historic inner city. According to prior information from Accor, the location is approximately a 10-minute journey from Khiva railway station and about a 30-minute drive from Urgench International Airport.

While initial blueprints for the property indicated 146 rooms, the Tourism Committee now states the completed hotel has 145 rooms. The original design also encompassed a spa complex with a swimming pool, a fitness center, a restaurant, a cafe, and conference facilities.

This Khiva property enhances Accor's footprint in Uzbekistan under the Mercure brand. The company previously launched the 126-room Mercure Tashkent, its first hotel in Uzbekistan under this brand. Additionally, a Mercure hotel in Bukhara began operations in late 2022.
