Uzbekistan has strengthened sanitary control amid the situation with a dangerous infection in Russia
Uzbekistan has raised the readiness of its sanitary and epidemiological services following reports of an especially dangerous infection in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast.
The Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare of Uzbekistan is monitoring the development of the situation and taking measures to prevent the import and spread of especially dangerous infections. Citizens are advised to rely on information from official sources.
In the Irkutsk Oblast, quarantine has been introduced at the Shelekhov District Hospital since October 1 after a suspected case of an especially dangerous infection was detected. Contact persons are under medical observation; however, according to regional authorities, no clinical signs of the disease have been found in them, and laboratory test results turned out to be negative.
Earlier, several media outlets reported that the cause of the patient's death could have been pneumonic plague. At the time of publication, Russian authorities had not officially named the infection, so these reports should be treated with caution.
The situation remains under the control of sanitary services.
