Uzbekistan and Tajikistan strengthen sanitary control

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have launched a project to develop cross-border cooperation in the field of sanitary and epidemiological safety.

The start of the initiative was marked by a meeting attended by representatives of the sanitary and epidemiological surveillance of both countries, the International Organization for Migration, the Asian Development Bank, relevant departments, and international experts.

The project aims to strengthen cooperation between the state border checkpoints "Oybek" in the Bekabad district of the Tashkent region and "Fotehobod" in the Sughd region of Tajikistan.

As part of the initiative, it is planned to form an intersectoral working group and develop mechanisms for cross-border information exchange. In addition, the project provides for the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance systems and measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases across the border.

A separate focus of the project will be studying the medical needs of residents of border areas and mobile population groups.

Botirjon Kurbonov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, noted that the "Oybek" and "Fotehobod" checkpoints are important strategic facilities on the Tashkent — Khujand route.

According to him, sanitary and epidemiological surveillance must be constantly strengthened, and cooperation and coordination between the authorized bodies of the two countries must be developed.

It is expected that the implementation of the project will strengthen the health protection of the population in border areas, increase the responsiveness to potential epidemiological threats, and strengthen sanitary and epidemiological safety in Central Asia.
