Uzbekistan has appointed its representative to the African Union for the first time
Uzbekistan's Ambassador Ashraf Khodjaev has become the country's first Permanent Representative to the African Union, which unites 55 African states. The parties discussed how to develop cooperation in the economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
Khodjaev presented his credentials to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, on October 14 in Addis Ababa.
Khodjaev represents Uzbekistan in Qatar and is also concurrently the ambassador to the Republic of South Africa and Ethiopia.
After the presentation of credentials, the parties discussed the further development of relations. In particular, they touched upon joint events and new opportunities for cooperation in trade, economics, culture, and the humanitarian sphere.
The appointment of a permanent representative will allow Uzbekistan to strengthen ties with the African Union and expand contacts with the countries of the African continent.
